Anybody planning on participating? If so why? If not why not?

Personally I choose not to.
It's an exercise in hate. Not what this country is supposed to be about.

Sure, we have our rights and freedoms but stupidity is stupidity. I've looked at this from both left and right points of views and it actually seems the majority of Americans and even competing networks agree to some point on this one.

STUPID. Plain and simple.

Terry Jones is an idiot. He hopes nothing "tragical" becomes of his stunt. Cripes, the rectal wonder can't even speak the English language somewhat properly.

He expresses some concern about how this may affect our troops overseas. Does he really? Hell, he's not there and, if I'm not mistaken, neither are his kids or any loved ones. Even that doesn't matter as far as that goes.
He just doesn't give a damn IMHO.

A fire I'd like to start? My butt, the best fart I could ever let and a lighter. Right in Terry Jone's face.

Hold a Quran in front of your face dude. Might actually save you.

Liberals and Atheists Smarter? Intelligent People Have Values Novel in Human Evolutionary History, Study Finds...

Liberals and Atheists Smarter? Intelligent People Have Values Novel in Human Evolutionary History, Study Finds
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases...0224132655.htm

ScienceDaily (Feb. 24, 2010) — More intelligent people are statistically significantly more likely to exhibit social values and religious and political preferences that are novel to the human species in evolutionary history. Specifically, liberalism and atheism, and for men (but not women), preference for sexual exclusivity correlate with higher intelligence, a new study finds.

The study, published in the March 2010 issue of the peer-reviewed scientific journal Social Psychology Quarterly, advances a new theory to explain why people form particular preferences and values. The theory suggests that more intelligent people are more likely than less intelligent people to adopt evolutionarily novel preferences and values, but intelligence does not correlate with preferences and values that are old enough to have been shaped by evolution over millions of years."

"Evolutionarily novel" preferences and values are those that humans are not biologically designed to have and our ancestors probably did not possess. In contrast, those that our ancestors had for millions of years are "evolutionarily familiar."

"General intelligence, the ability to think and reason, endowed our ancestors with advantages in solving evolutionarily novel problems for which they did not have innate solutions," says Satoshi Kanazawa, an evolutionary psychologist at the London School of Economics and Political Science. "As a result, more intelligent people are more likely to recognize and understand such novel entities and situations than less intelligent people, and some of these entities and situations are preferences, values, and lifestyles."
An earlier study by Kanazawa found that more intelligent individuals were more nocturnal, waking up and staying up later than less intelligent individuals. Because our ancestors lacked artificial light, they tended to wake up shortly before dawn and go to sleep shortly after dusk. Being nocturnal is evolutionarily novel.

In the current study, Kanazawa argues that humans are evolutionarily designed to be conservative, caring mostly about their family and friends, and being liberal, caring about an indefinite number of genetically unrelated strangers they never meet or interact with, is evolutionarily novel. So more intelligent children may be more likely to grow up to be liberals.

Data from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health (Add Health) support Kanazawa's hypothesis. Young adults who subjectively identify themselves as "very liberal" have an average IQ of 106 during adolescence while those who identify themselves as "very conservative" have an average IQ of 95 during adolescence.

Similarly, religion is a byproduct of humans' tendency to perceive agency and intention as causes of events, to see "the hands of God" at work behind otherwise natural phenomena. "Humans are evolutionarily designed to be paranoid, and they believe in God because they are paranoid," says Kanazawa. This innate bias toward paranoia served humans well when self-preservation and protection of their families and clans depended on extreme vigilance to all potential dangers. "So, more intelligent children are more likely to grow up to go against their natural evolutionary tendency to believe in God, and they become atheists."

Young adults who identify themselves as "not at all religious" have an average IQ of 103 during adolescence, while those who identify themselves as "very religious" have an average IQ of 97 during adolescence.
In addition, humans have always been mildly polygynous in evolutionary history. Men in polygynous marriages were not expected to be sexually exclusive to one mate, whereas men in monogamous marriages were. In sharp contrast, whether they are in a monogamous or polygynous marriage, women were always expected to be sexually exclusive to one mate. So being sexually exclusive is evolutionarily novel for men, but not for women. And the theory predicts that more intelligent men are more likely to value sexual exclusivity than less intelligent men, but general intelligence makes no difference for women's value on sexual exclusivity. Kanazawa's analysis of Add Health data supports these sex-specific predictions as well.

One intriguing but theoretically predicted finding of the study is that more intelligent people are no more or no less likely to value such evolutionarily familiar entities as marriage, family, children, and friends.

I thought it was great today when our President tells it like it is. Paraphrasing..he basically reminded us all that the right wing agenda has already been tried and has failed miserably. He reminded us the last decade has proven the right takes us absolutely nowhere except into the dumpster. Bravo Mr. President! All of the bi*tching and moaning you hear from the right and the results they produced and they "want the keys back". I love it! Run on absolutely nothing and simply try to block any and every thing the man tries to do good, bad and indifferent. This after they brought us to the brink of economic collapse, admit nothing and offer to do more of the same. Screw everything up, do nothing, then b*tch when someone else tries to address the problems they created. Un-friggin believable. Mr. Tanman and the "we support the mega wealthy" Mr. Graham go steaming along like the ass*s they are, while the half ex-governor (the "elect me and I'll quit" candidate) of Alaska and some old crusty, nearly invalid, emptiest head since George Jr., and failed Republican "best to offer" candidate spends 20 million to get an 80k job in Airheadzona (and complain about deficits while doing so)....steam proudly along and act like nothing ever happened before Obama. Forget about the past 10 year and refocus of imperfections of the past year and a half. All the lot screams for tax relief for the mega wealthy while complaining about deficits (except when they are the recipients of MORE cash). Is it any wonder our smoke and mirrors economy is anything except a bad joke?
Mr. O is in campaign mode now though, so at least he'll make no bones about shining a light on the cockroaches as they scatter. It'll be great entertainment anyway as we watch the right run on nothing but greed and hypocrisy as is the norm. Can't wait till O shows the right's own words and actions for what they really are, instead of what they claim to be running on.Oh wait....they aren't running ON anything..just against humanity!

I believe there are 8 dem candidates who are campaigning on the message they voted against Obamacare and one in particular who openly criticized the policies of BO & Pelosi. It has even gotten to the point where BO is being asked not to campaign for certain candidates. Hmmmmmm......

I am hardly an avid visitor to this forum, but got a question for the smarter folks here to help me understand something...

There has been alot of talk the past year or so about the possibility of Greece defaulting on its debt. According to the news, other countries could also find themselves in similar troubles over the next few years. Was it because Greece's debt was close to or above its GDP that made it near unable to pay its debt??

In a recent article i read, it noted "...U.S. public debt, already three times its relative size three decades ago, is fast approaching 100% of GDP".

So what happens when the US debt equals or surpasses our GDP?

Everyone is predicting doom and gloom for the Democrats in the midterms for any number of reasons not the least of which is that the party in power always loses seats in congress during the midterms. I think it has only happened twice in our country’s history that the party in power hasn’t lost seats in congress in the midterms. In addition to that, there are vastly more Democrats than Republicans up for re-election this election. Given that, Democratic losses are almost inevitable.

If I were Obama, I’d take a page from the Bush/Cheney playbook and call the head of Homeland Security and arbitrarily raise the terror threat in order to scare people into voting for the incumbents. Tom Ridge admitted doing exactly that on the eve of the 2004 election after being pressured from above and stated that he had no idea why he was raising the threat level even though he was the head of Homeland Security.

Would any of you have problems with Obama doing the same thing?
